MILWAUKEE - Former Marquette University men's golfer Mike Van Sickle is one step closer to playing in the 112th U.S. Open after capturing medalist honors at a U.S. Open local qualifier Tuesday afternoon in Midway, Penn.

Van Sickle shot a 5-under-par 67 at Quicksilver Golf Course and will advance to play in the U.S. Open sectional qualifier next month in Columbus, Ohio. If the MU alum earns medalist honors at the sectional qualifier, he will receive a bid to play in the U.S. Open at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif.

Before he graduated last May, Rob Frozena became famous to Marquette basketball fans for his limited playing action in the waning moments of blowouts, which prompted the student section to chant his name. He still gets some of the loudest cheers at games when he shows up on the Jumbotron as a spectator. [Full Story]

After watching BYU rally to beat Iona last night, the Marquette University men's basketball team learned their next opponent and was ready to begin preparations for Thursday's second round NCAA Championship game in Louisville

Following breakfast, the Golden Eagles departed the team hotel for Cardinal Arena, on the campus of the University of Louisville, for a short, one-hour practice that covered some of the game plan for BYU, which was already in place.

MU then headed to the KFC Yum! Center for today's media obligations where they received a box lunch in the locker room to help replenish their energy.

Jae Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom, along with Coach Buzz, attended a scheduled press conference at the arena which started at 1:35 p.m. ET. Meanwhile, the locker room was open to members of the media to interview players who were not at the press conference.

Afterward, the team practiced for about 40 minutes in front of NCAA tournament fans, as is mandatory. It's usually pretty low-key, but a good chance for the local basketball fans, and others who have traveled in, to get to see all of the teams, take pictures and get autographs.

Tonight the team will relax at the hotel and watch more game film on BYU. March Madness is here. Now, it's win or go home.

The MU players and coaches were joined by University administrators, family members, the pep band and cheerleaders.

After getting organized in the team headquarters, the team will eat dinner prior to a film session and the 9 p.m. ET opening tip for the BYU/Iona game.  This year's hotel features truTV, an appreciated bonus for the coaching staff as it tries to keep up with tournament action across the country.

Wednesday's schedule includes practice at Louisville's Cardinal Arena, the official NCAA open practice and media sessions with head coach Buzz Williams and seniors Jae Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom.
