Ashley Bares' play with UMF Stjarnan is gaining attention for the former Marquette star in the top-division Urvalsdedild as she was named the league's mid-season player of the year.

The Iceland soccer website, Fótbolti.net, which is owned by the Football Association of Iceland (KSI), picked Bares as the top performer through nine matches. Fótbolti.net also named her Urvalsdedild's top foreign player for the first half of the season.

Stjarnan sits in first place in Urvalsdedild with an 8-1-0 record, while Bares leads the league with 11 goals through nine games.  She has scored at least two goals in all but two games during the first half of the season.

Valley Fields, home of Marquette University men's and women's soccer, is set to host select matches of the 2011 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Finals Week being held in Milwaukee July 9-16, 2011.

A total of eight games will be played at Valley Fields, one match each day of the event, including the U17/18 championship match on Friday, July 15, which will be televised live on ESPNU/ESPN3 (noon CT/1 p.m. ET) (Full Schedule Get Acrobat Reader)

"This is one of the most important youth sporting events in Milwaukee that the soccer community has seen in some time," said Marquette University head men's soccer coach Louis Bennett. "To be able to showcase the top youth soccer teams in the country is great for this city, and it's an honor for Marquette."

In all, eight teams from two different age divisions (Under-17/18 and Under 15/16) will descend on Milwaukee for a shot at the title. The top 32 teams in each age group advanced to Finals Week by winning their respective groups at the Development Academy Playoffs, June 24-28, at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.

U.S. Soccer announced in May that its fourth annual Finals Week was moving to Milwaukee after playing the previous three events at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. In addition to Valley Fields, Uihlein Soccer Park and Quad Park will also host matches throughout the week.
