Pyzdrowski, Miller, Mallace Named to NSCAA All-State Team

Three Marquette University men's soccer players have been named to the 2009 NSCAA Wisconsin All-State Team it was recently announced. Senior goalkeeper Matt Pyzdrowski, sophomore defender Scott Miller and sophomore midfielder Calum Mallace represented the Golden Eagles on the 14-person squad, which includes all NCAA Division I and Division II schools in the state

Colaizzi Named to Pioneer Press All-Decade Team

Current Marquette University junior men's soccer player Anthony Colaizzi was recently recognized for his stellar prep career at Warren Township High School. Last week, the MU midfielder was named to the Pioneer Press All-Lake Shore All-Decade men's soccer "dream team."

Giving Back

The Golden Eagles continue to find ways to give back and this holiday season was no different. 


The Golden Eagles collected 275 t-shirts during their t-shirt exchange Dec. 10 and 11 where fans were encouraged bring in an old t-shirt from another university in exchange for a new Marquette t-shirt. All t-shirts were donated to the Salvation Army.


During the women's basketball game against Canisius on Dec. 21, Marquette hosted Christmas at The Al. One of the highlights the night was the teddy bear/plush animal toss at halftime. Marquette fans didn't disappoint and 50 teddy bears and stuffed toys were also donated the Salvation Army. 


Great job Marquette fans!

Men's Basketball Returns Safely From Christmas Break

Every member of the Marquette University men's basketball program, scattered across the country for Christmas break, returned to the Al McGuire Center safely Friday night to begin preparations for Sunday's game against Presbyterian and the start of the BIG EAST schedule on Tuesday.

Saturday's schedule includes individual workouts, practice and film sessions surrounded by team meals.  The squad will also watch the West Virginia-Seton Hall game in the afternoon.

The Golden Eagles host the Blue Hose at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Bradley Center in the non-conference finale.

Former Marquette University goalkeeper Matt Pyzdrowski, who is set to graduate with a degree in marketing and finance this Sunday at the 2009 Mid-Year Commencement, hopes to embark on a professional playing career.

An online column by Buzz Carrick posted today at ESPN.com lists Pyzdrowski as one of the "seniors to watch" in the upcoming MLS Draft this January.

The Terri Mitchell TV Show Returns to Sports32 Tonight at 5 p.m.


This week Mitchell looks back at team's trip to Cancun, Mexico for the Caribbean Challenge, as well as wins over Illinois and Robert Morris. Director of Basketball Operations Angie Lewis sits down with Kareeda to discuss the team's role in community, and red-shirt junior Jocelyn Mellen stops by to reflect on returning to action after a season-ending knee injury in 2008. 


The show will re-air at the following times.

Gansler to be inducted into NSCAA Hall of Fame

Marquette University graduate Bob Gansler, who led the USA to its first World Cup appearance in 40 years, was one of two people who have been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) Hall of Fame.

Marquette-Milwaukee Postgame Notes

  • Series History: Marquette leads 37-0
  • MU's winning streak ranks as the second longest in the country over one opponent. The only streak longer is Syracuse over Colgate (44 games).
  • Junior forward Jimmy Butler led Marquette in scoring and rebounding for the second-consecutive game, recording 19 points and five boards. Butler had 19 points and 12 rebounds Saturday afternoon against N.C. State. Butler was a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor.
  • Jeronne Maymon was also perfect from the floor, going 4-of-4 with eight points.
  • The two squads only grabbed one offensive rebound apiece in the first half, with MU scoring two second chance points in the frame. MU did not grab an offensive rebound at all in the second half.
  • MU shot 52.2 percent from the field, its second-highest total of the season. The Golden Eagles shot 52.8 percent against Michigan in the Old Spice Classic.
  • Marquette was outrebounded, 28-26, for the third time this season. Prior to tonight's contest, MU was 1-1 in games in which they were outrebounded.
  • Freshman forward Erik Williams played nine minutes after not seeing action in the previous four games.
  • Freshman center Youssoupha Mbao saw his first extended minutes since the South Dakota game. Mbao checked in with 4:15 remaining in the second half and played the remainder of the game.

Track & Field Highlights - Blue & Gold Invitational

Marquette track and field took part in the Blue and Gold Invitational Friday evening at Notre Dame. According to head coach Bert Rogers it was the squad's best showing in a December meet during his time at MU.

The Golden Eagles took home seven individual titles at the meet. While the key veterans provided their usual solid marks, several newcomers' performances turned heads as well.

A couple of quick notes regarding tomorrow's matchup with NC St. at 2 p.m. at the Bradley Center.

Student doors will open 90 minutes prior to tip-off, rather than the standard 60 minutes

The Golden Eagles will make their annual Christmas song debut on the jumbotron, featuring a version this season of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town"

The players will also help encourage the innocent victims of the popular "Kiss Cam"
