• Series History: Marquette leads 5-4 • No. 12 Georgetown is the highest ranked team that MU has defeated since it beat No. 12 Pittsburgh, 75-71 on March 3, 2007.
• The win is MU's first BIG EAST victory over a ranked team since it beat Georgetown 94-82 when it was ranked No. 25 on Jan. 31, 2009.
• Senior forward Lazar Hayward scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season.
• Marquette jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first half and would lead for all of the first stanza.
• Senior guard David Cubillan led the Golden Eagles in scoring for the first time this season. He finished with a season-high 18 points.
• Cubillan was a perfect 6-of-6 from long range, tying him for the top percentage (1.000) in school history in a single game. Last season against Cincinnati Jerel McNeal was a perfect 7-of-7 from deep for the most threes without a miss. Cubillan hit all four of his 3-point attempts in the first half, including the last three MU baskets of the half.
• Junior guard Dwight Buycks saw a season-high 39 minutes of action while scoring 10 points, his second consecutive game in double digits.
• Georgetown took its first lead of the game, 38-37, at the 16:40 mark of the second half on a pair of Austin Freeman free throws. The free throws were the result of a technical foul assessed to the Marquette bench. It was MU's first technical foul of the season.
• Marquette was outscored in the paint 32-6.
• Despite MU's apparent lack of size it out-rebounded the Hoyas 31-28.
• It was the first time this season that MU has defeated a team while recording the lower shooting percentage. GU shot 48.9 percent (22-of-45) while MU was 38.9 percent (21-of-54).
• MU used a 12-6 advantage on the offensive glass to outscore GU 17-8 in second-chance points.
• Marquette outscored the Georgetown bench 11-2, with seven points coming from Darius Johnson-Odom.
