Marquette-Villanova Postgame Notes & Video

  •  Series History: Villanova leads 9-6
  • Senior forward Lazar Hayward notched his third double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Hayward also moved into 14th place all-time in scoring at MU (1,508 points).
  • Junior guard Jimmy Butler led MU with 19 points, the sixth time this season that Butler has led the Golden Eagles in scoring.
  • MU is now 2-8 in its last 10 games decided by four-or-less points, including a 63-62 loss at the hands of No. 6 West Virginia on Dec. 29.
  • The lead changed 13 times over the course of the contest.
  • After nailing four of its first five 3-pointers, MU closed out the first half by making only one of its final eight attempts.
  • In the first half, MU pulled out to a 23-13 lead before a 13-2 Villanova run would give the Wildcats their first lead at 26-25 Marquette sophomore Darius Johnson-Odom, who entered today's game leading the BIG EAST in 3-point percentage (59.6 percent), was held without a trey for the first time this season.
  • Junior guard Dwight Buycks scored a career-high 15 points.
  • Villanova freshman guard Maalik Wayns tied a career high with 16 points
