Former Marquette guard David Cubillan helped his native country of Venezuela to a fourth-place finish over the weekend at the 2010 South American Championships.
With the fourth-place finish in the eight-team field, Venezuela automatically qualified for the 2011 FIBA-Americas Championships.
Cubillan played in all five games, averaging 17.6 minutes per game. He chipped in 4.6 points and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 42.9 percent from behind the 3-point line.
Venezuela was defeated by eventual champion Brazil in the semifinals 79-67 and downed by Uruguay 76-70 in the bronze medal matchup.
Cubillan joins former Marquette standouts Butch Lee (1976 Olympics, Puerto Rico) and Walter Budrunas (1939 European Championship, Lithuania) as players to have seen action for their respective native countries (other than the United States) at the international level.
