Former Marquette guard David Cubillan has led Espartanos de Margarita to the LNB (Liga Nacional de Baloncesto) finals for the first time in almost a decade.
Cubillan scored a game-high 22 points in the team's victory over Lanceros de Cojedes to complete a three-game sweep in the best-of-five series. Espartanos will now wait for its finals opponent to be determined before opening another five-game series.
Cubillan has averaged over 14.0 points per game for the team, which finished the regular season with a league-best 23-5 record. The lone American on the roster is former Connecticut standout Kevin Freeman, who chipped in 21 points in the victory.
Cordell Henry, another former MU guard, saw action for the franchise last year in the team's Liga Americas tournament play.
Cubillan saw action with the Venezuelan National Team this past summer in the South American Championships.
