In a tightly contested third set, Marquette was able to pull out a 25-23 victory to gain the advantage in a frame that featured 17 ties. After a Golden Eagle timeout with the stanza tied at 23-23, MU took a 24-23 lead and junior outside hitter Ciara Jones stepped up for her first service attempt of the match and only her third of the season. After her serve cleared the net, Jones would not let the Golden Eagles lose as she stepped in front of defensive specialist Kelsey Warner for her only dig of the match. Her ensuing pass to setter Nikki Klingsporn helped Klingsporn set up Ashley Beyer on the outside for a set-ending kill.
Marquette would go on to defeat Villanova 25-21 in the fourth and final set to give MU its first BIG EAST victory of the season. With the win, the Golden Eagles earned their first victory on an opponent's home court this season and gave the Wildcats their first loss in over a month. Beyer, whose kill ended the third set, was playing in her first match in two weeks after returning from an injury sustained on Sept. 18 at Northwestern. Beyer led MU with 17 kills in the match.
