For the second consecutive year, the Marquette men's soccer team earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award. Louis Bennett's squad (3.03 GPA) was one of 195 men's teams to be honored, its third such award since 2000.
All 634 teams earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2009-10 academic year. MU was one of 129 schools to have both the men's and women's teams recognized, and one of six in the BIG EAST. The entire NSCAA release can be viewed here.
Texas Christian University has accepted an
invitation for full membership into the BIG EAST Conference, it was
announced today. The BIG EAST, by a vote of its Presidents and
Chancellors, extended the invitation for membership. TCU will become the 17th
conference member on July 1, 2012. Its athletic teams will begin
competing in the BIG EAST in the 2012-13 academic year.
"We are excited TCU is joining the BIG EAST," said Marquette University Director of Athletics Steve Cottingham. "TCU is a quality institution and a natural fit. The BIG EAST is the largest and most diverse Division I athletic conference in the country -- TCU makes us that much bigger and stronger." The full release from the BIG EAST can be viewed here. The Marquette University women's volleyball team hosts No. 19 Cincinnati Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center in a match to decide the BIG EAST regular season champion and the conference tournament's No. 1 seed. Seniors Rabbecka Gonyo and Nikki Klingsporn will be honored in a pre-match ceremony, while all MU volleyball alumnae will be honored between sets two and three. Sunday is also Marquette's 'Dig Pink' match in support of the Side-Out Foundation's fight against breast cancer.

Marquette women's volleyball head coach Bond Shymansky let the GoMarquette.com cameras inside the volleyball lounge for his speech to the squad between sets two and three of Tuesday's match with Illinois-Chicago. The Golden Eagles went on to sweep the Flames in three sets for their 11th consecutive win.
Former MU guard Wesley Matthews led all scorers with 18 points in Portland's 90-76 victory over the Bucks Tuesday night at the Bradley Center. He also chipped in five rebounds and four assists in 28 minutes of action.
Junior guard Darius Johnson-Odom, who missed a majority of the preseason with an injury last year, is experiencing his first "true" season at Marquette in 2010-11.
