Tex Winter, former Marquette men's basketball head coach from 1951-53 and innovator of the "Triangle" offense, has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, it was announced Monday.
Winter was the youngest head coach in major college basketball during the 1951-52 season when he led MU to the National Catholic Tournament Championship. After the 1952-53 campaign he left for Kansas State where he would remain until 1968. In all, Winter collected 454 career victories on the collegiate level.
Along with the rest of the 2011 class, Winter will be officially inducted in August in Springfield, Mass.
Winter joins Al McGuire as former Marquette coaches to be honored with induction.
