Former Marquette distance runners Cassie Nelson and Scott Mueller ran in the Firecracker Four in Hales Corner, Wis., on Sunday morning.
Nelson, formerly Cassie Peller, ran a time of 23:54 to win the women's division and Mueller ran a 19:48 to win the men's race.
The 33rd annual race through wooded neighborhoods off Highway 100 drew over 1,100 partcipants.
Nelson earned All-BIG EAST Conference honors on the Marquette track team. While pursing post graduate studies for the past three years, she has been near the top of most local races. The former Marquette standout currently serves as a volunteer assistant coach with Marquette cross country and track and field teams.
Mueller has been invincible in the short-distance road races. He has a three-peat in the SuperRun 5k and added another trophy on Sunday.
