Dwyane Wade Bowls With Scholarship Winners

D-Wade returned to campus Monday to celebrate with Boys and Girls Club scholarship recipients. Local television stations and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel picked up the story as Wade went bowling with the scholarship winners at the Union Sports Annex.

Former Marquette University Golden Eagle Matt Pyzdrowski ('09) is in his first season as the starting goalkeeper for Angelholms FF of the Swedish "Superettan" soccer league, and in his second year of playing professional soccer.

Golfweek TV's Asher Wildman Visits Marquette

Golfweek TV host Asher Wildman visited Marquette University yesterday to participate in a strength and conditioning workout with the Golden Eagles men's golf team and visit with MU head coach Steve Bailey.

Wildman, who was in the Milwaukee area covering the U.S. Amateur Championship currently being played at Erin Hills Golf Course, worked out with MU strength coach Nate Heyrman then toured campus with recent grad Ben Sieg, which concluded with lunch at Sobelman's new on-campus restaurant.

Former Track Athlete, Terry Evans, Passes Away at 71

Terry Evans, a federal judge with the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago and a former Marquette track athlete, passed away Wednesday at the University of Chicago Hospital. He was 71.

Evans ran track for head coach Bus Shimek at Marquette and graduated with a bachelor's of arts in 1962. He graduated from Marquette Law School in 1967.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, daughters Kelly Evans-Pfeifer and Christine Evans Wise, son David and grandchildren.

A public visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Feerick Funeral Home, 2025 E. Capitol Drive, Shorewood, Wis.

Volleyball Begins Preseason Training

The Marquette women's volleyball team kicked off its preseason training camp earlier this week and things have gone very well. Head coach Bond Shymansky, along with senior outside hitter Ashley Beyer and junior middle hitter Danielle Carlson discussed the impressive start to the week:


The Golden Eagles will hold their annual Fan Fest at 4 p.m. Friday at the Al McGuire Center. The event is free and all fans are encouraged to attend.

The Marquette women's soccer team arrived at Camp Whitcomb Monday afternoon after spending three days in Waupaca, Wis. The team got a break from its on-field soccer training to focus on team bonding with a series of team challenges Wednesday morning. In the video below Megan Jaskowiak and Ashley Stemmeler give an update on training camp and share their thoughts on the team bonding activities.


The Golden Eagles will spend the rest of the week at Camp Whitcomb before returning to Milwaukee to participate in Marquette soccer's fifth annual Fan Fest on Friday, Aug. 12. The team will travel to Madison to play Wisconsin for its lone exhibition game of the season on Saturday, Aug. 13. Marquette officially opens the 2011 season on Friday, Aug. 19 against Western Michigan at Valley Fields at 7:30 p.m.

Marquette University sophomore Corey Konieczki tied for fifth place and senior Ryan Prickette finished seventh at a 36-hole qualifying tournament held Monday, Aug. 1 at the prestigious Milwaukee Country Club for the upcoming U.S. Amateur Championship.

Only three golfers (including two alternates) from the Milwaukee CC qualifying site earned spots into the Championship, Aug. 22-28 at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis.
