MILWAUKEE - Current and former Marquette distance runners littered the
leaderboard Saturday afternoon at the Briggs and Al's Run for Children's
Hospital with Nick Szczech claiming the men's title with a time of 24:50.
Szczech, currently working on requirements to finish his
bachelor's degree, concluded his Marquette career second in program history in
the outdoor 10,000-meter run and earned Captial One Academic All-District V
First Team honors last year.
The Cudahy, Wis., native was followed in the top 25 by senior
Keith Schueller (fourth, 25:49), freshmen David Sajdak (10th, 26:55) and
Brendan Franz (22nd, 28:08), sophomore Zack Young (11th, 27:00) and cross
country head coach Mike Nelson (25th, 28:29).
Volunteer assistant coach Cassie Nelson was third on the
women's side in 29:31, while Olivia Johnson, a 2011 Capital One First Team
Academic All-American was the highest placing member (4th, 29:49) of the current track and
field squad. Sophomore Claire Guidinger finished 10th in 32:43.
