Former Marquette University men's soccer player Calum Mallace returned to Milwaukee on Tuesday night immediately following the conclusion of the five-day Major League Soccer (MLS) Player Combine in Lauderhill, Fla.

The Player Combine was held in advance of this Thursday's MLS SuperDraft, which will be televised live from Kansas City, Mo., at 11 a.m. CT (noon ET) on ESPN2 and ESPN3.

The lanky Mallace was one the best central midfielders at the combine. He showed the ability to control the tempo of games, and capped off three good days of work with arguably the best goal of the combine on Tuesday, his 22nd birthday. Mallace received a pass from Luckymore Mkosana, dribbled away from a defender and ripped a shot that curled into the upper corner of the goal.

Mallace, who also celebrated his 22nd birthday Tuesday, scored one of three second-half goals for team adiPower in their 4-1 win over adiPure in the final match of the Combine. Mallace and adiPower finished with a perfect 3-0 record on the weekend.

Although he hadn't had much time yet to reflect on the experience, Mallace said he cherished the opportunity to showcase his talents in front of MLS coaches and technical directors.

"It was a privilege for me to play at the Combine," said Mallace, who has also garnered interest from professional soccer clubs overseas. "It's exciting because you don't really know what's going to happen [until Thursday]. So I'm just going to sit and see if I get drafted and decide what to do from there."

Mock drafts (such as SB Nation and MLSsoccer.com ) have projected that Mallace will be a first-round selection. No MU men's soccer player has ever been selected in the MLS SuperDraft since the league was founded in 1993.

Mallace said that he intends to watch the SuperDraft on live television in Milwaukee with his friends and teammates.

There are a total of 19 MLS clubs that will select a total of 38 players over a course of two rounds. The expansion Montreal Impact will have the first overall selection.
