MILWAUKEE - Marquette University student-athletes and athletic department staff gathered at the Alumni Memorial Union on Sunday afternoon to help hand-pack 100,000 meals for hungry children all over the world.

About 500 volunteers were on hand to participate in the "MobilePack" event, which benefits the Feed My Starving Children organization, led by Marquette junior Bryan Ciesiulka and the MU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Ciesiulka, a captain on the men's soccer team, spearheaded an effort that began this past fall to fundraise over $22,000 to purchase all the food and supplies needed to sponsor the Marquette MobilePack.

On Sunday, volunteers packed the food, which consists mostly of rice and dehydrated vegetables, and loaded them into boxes for shipping.

There are 925 million hungry people in the world according to UNICEF. Approximately 18,000 children a day die from hunger and hunger-related disease.

Feed My Starving Children has partnerships with orphanages, clinics, schools, missions and community feeding programs in nearly 70 countries worldwide.
