Dr. Paul McInerny appointed chief athletic advancement officer
January 27, 2005 - Dr. Paul McInerny has been appointed chief athletic advancement officer it was announced today by the Marquette Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. McInerny, who will assume the position on March 1, is responsible for major gifts, endowments, fund raising and special projects for intercollegiate athletics. He joins Marquette from Dominican High School, where he has served as president since 1995.
?I am very pleased to have the opportunity to return to Marquette and work on behalf of athletics,? said McInerny. ?This is an exciting time to be part of the university as Marquette prepares to enter the BIG EAST Conference. I look forward to working with the many loyal benefactors of Marquette athletics as we face the challenges ahead.?
An alumnus of Marquette University, McInerny earned two degrees from the school; a bachelor of arts in 1972 and a Ph.D. in Foundations of Education in 1989. Following a successful two-year journalism career in North Dakota, he returned to his alma mater in 1976 as an administrator in the university?s office of public affairs. For the next 19 years, McInerny served the university in various administrative capacities including director of media relations and publications and senior advancement officer. In 1995, he joined Dominican High School as its chief administrator responsible for the overall direction of the school?s strategic planning, marketing, fund raising, community outreach, financial management and mission.
?We are excited to have someone of Paul?s experience and knowledge of the Marquette community,? said Kyle Moats, senior associate athletic director. ?This position is crucial as we continue to move forward with our preparations for the BIG EAST.?
Particularly familiar with the department of athletics, McInerny was a member of Marquette?s men?s soccer program in 1969 and 1970. He is a member of the Marquette University Alumni Association national board, served on the M Club board of directors from 1985 to 1999, and received the club?s Hy Popuch Award in 1996 for his service to intercollegiate athletics.
