SAAC Food Drive Nets 750 Pounds of Food For Hunger Task Force
Jan. 27, 2010
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) sponsored a food drive during the month of December and was able to donate 750 pounds of food to Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee.
"We were overwhelmed by the generosity of all of the teams that participated," SAAC President and men's tennis player Mark Rutherford said. "Student-athletes donated hundreds of items of food along with cash to Hunger Task Force right before the holidays. It always feels greet to participate in an event like this and it reminds all of us that when we all give back a small amount we can make a large contribution to the community."
The food drive started with a kick-off to the food drive around Thanksgiving and ran through the conclusion of final exams in the middle of December.
It is the first time that SAAC and Hunger Task Force have teamed up.
Hunger Task Force depends upon community support to operate. More than 4,000 people volunteer each year, putting their time and talent to work across all areas of the agency. Over 47,000 people a month rely on emergency food assistance at pantries - a 24 percent increase from last year
Hunger Task Force is Wisconsin’s premier anti-hunger organization that has been feeding Milwaukee since 1974.
