Marquette Unveils Al McGuire Center Drawings and Location
Feb. 18, 2002
MILWAUKEE - Marquette University President Father Robert A. Wild, S.J., unveiled an exterior rendering of the Al McGuire Center. He also announced that the $31 million facility is to be built on N. Wells St. between 11th and 12th streets. The building is named after the late Al McGuire who coached the Marquette basketball team to a national championship in 1977.
On the fundraising side, Marquette alumnus Steve Michels announced a gift of $1.5 million to the project and and challenged other donors to get involved. With Mr. Michel's gift, Marquette has now raised $19 million for the McGuire Center. However, Marquette still needs to raise more funds to break ground.
OPUS North is responsible for the design and build of the McGuire Center. They have contracted with NBBJ to do the architectural work. NBBJ also designed the Staples Center in Los Angeles and Miller Park in Milwaukee.
