MBB continues BIG EAST Tournament play

The Golden Eagles held on to top DePaul, 72-69, in the BIG EAST Tournament opening round and will face second-seeded and No. 2/3 Villanova in Thursday's quarterfinal. The game will be featured on FS1 with a 6 p.m. Central start time. With the win last night, Marquette extends its streak of reaching the quarterfinals in all BIG EAST Tournaments it has participated in since joining the league in 2005-06. Marquette lost a narrow decision the last time facing the Wildcats, losing by only three points wile Andrew Rowsey posted 29 on Jan. 28.

Howard reaches and Rowsey nears 1,000 points at MU

Markus Howard became the first true sophomore in Marquette history to reach 1,000 points in the regular season finale against Creighton and Andrew Rowsey hopes to join him in Thursday's game against Villlanova. Rowsey enters the quarterfinal game with 992 points at MU and would become just the fifth player in NCAA history to reach 1,000 points at two different NCAA Division I institution.

MU breaks ground on AHPRC

Marquette University officially broke ground on its new Athletic and Human Performance Research Center on Tuesday morning. The AHPRC will host “cutting-edge research … optimizing athletic performance as well as exploring the relationships between exercise, fitness and the overall heath and well-being of people across the lifespan,” said President Michael R. Lovell.

T&F sends Armstrong to NCAA Indoor Championships

Sophomore Daniel Armstrong will represent Marquette in the high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championship in College Station, Texas this weekend. The sophomore won the BIG EAST high jump title with a height of 2.20 meters (7-2.5 feet). The jump served to be high enough to place him within the top-16 high jumpers in the nation and give him a place at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.

Four new names earn Blue & Gold Status

The Academic Support Staff has selected Carrie Madden (WSOC), Zach Granger (MLAX), Ted Goltzman (MLAX) and Jessica Parker (T&F) to Blue & Gold Status this week. Madden, Granger and Goltzman are all active in SHAPE, a program to increase awareness about the mental health and wellness in student-athletes. Parker traveled to Nicaragua over winter break with Marquette’s Global Brigade to assists in medical, dental and public health outreach in rural communities.

MLAX hosts Robert Morris; Grill on Honor Roll

The Golden Eagles will host Robert Morris at Valley fields and 1 p.m. on Saturday after going 1-1 in the Midwest Lacrosse Classic this past weekend, upsetting then-No. 4/6 Ohio State and dropping a double overtime decision to Bellarmine.

Nick Grill was honored by the league’s office for shutting down OSU’s lead attackman Tre Leclaire and was named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Grill also picked up a ground ball against OSU and a pair against Bellarmine.
