Al McGuire Center Groundbreaking Set For May 1
April 19, 2002
Milwaukee -- Marquette will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday, May 1, for the Al McGuire Center. President Robert Wild, S.J., made the announcement at Al's "Big Dance," held on the Al McGuire Court of the Bradley Center on Thursday, April 18. A total of 625 people attended the sold-out fundraiser, which raised $700,000 for the project.
In March, an anonymous donor pledged $2.5 million to the project. However, Marquette had to raise an additional $2.5 million to receive that money. Father Wild announced that Marquette raised $3,420,947 over the five week period, allowing the university to set a groundbreaking date.
The groundbreaking event, which is open to the public, will start at 11:45 a.m. at the construction site on North 12th Street between West Wisconsin Avenue and West Wells Street. Guests should gather at the site at 11:15 a.m. A picnic lunch will follow.
Parking is available in the structure on North 16th Street between Wisconsin and Wells.
