Marquette Athletics Awards Handed Out

Marquette Athletics honored its teams and student-athletes, Sunday, at the Sports Awards Banquet, held at the Milwaukee Hilton.

Among the awards announced were the team MVP awards. Below is a list of the MVPs.

Katie Bissen
Co-MVP, Women's Soccer
Named second team All-Conference USA, Bissen led the Golden Eagles in net, notching the sixth best single season goals against average (0.91) in program history, as well as the fifth best single season in saves (76) and tied for fifth best season in shutouts (7.5) ... Bissen was part of a defensive unit that had the fifth best goals against average in school history as a team (0.91).

Brianna Dahm
MVP, 2002-03 Women's Track and Field
Earned All-American status following her eighth place finish in the 3,000 meter Steeplechase at the NCAA Championships ... Named the 2003 Conference USA Most Outstanding Athlete at the 2003 C-USA Indoor Championships ... C-USA Individual Champion in both the Mile and the 3,000 Meters.

Brent Des Roches
MVP, 2002-03 Men's Track and Field
Co-MVP, Men's Cross Country
2003 Cross Country: Ran the best time on the team on two occasions ... Also posted two top-10 times, including a fourth place finish at the Conference USA Championships.

Veronica Garcia Briseno
MVP, Women's Tennis
Marquette?s No. 1 player in both singles and doubles, the senior fought to a 7-16 record against top competition ? of her 16 singles losses, 12 came against opponents ranked in the top 100 ? Went 4-2 against C-USA opponents in singles, including 3-0 in the regular season.

Raj Gill
MVP, Men's Tennis
The senior posted an 11-7 record in singles, including 10-3 from positions No. 2 and below ... Also put up a record of 10-7 in doubles during the dual season, while leading the team to an overall record of 10-12.

Gemma Greer
MVP, Women's Volleyball
The senior setter wrapped up her career second on Marquette's career charts in assists (4,368) ... She also finished tenth on the career charts for service aces, with 99.

Jody Jakubek
MVP, Women's Cross Country
Was Marquette's top finisher in each of the five races she ran, including two overall top-five marks ... Took third overall at the Conference USA Championships, and 11th overall at the NCAA Regional Meet ... A first team All-Conference USA selection, Jakubek led Marquette to its fourth consecutive C-USA title ... She also garnered first-team recognition on the All-Great Lakes Regional squad.

Chris Lee
MVP, Men's Soccer
Junior forward Chris Lee led Conference USA in scoring and owned the 15th best total in the nation ... He also led the league in goals scored and was eighth in the nation in goals per match ... He was named third-team all-Great Lakes region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, as well as first team All-Conference USA.

Lindsay Smale
Co-MVP, Women's Soccer
Senior sweeper Lindsay Smale was named third-team All-Great Lakes region by Soccer Buzz, as well as NSCAA Scholar Athlete All Region Second team, and NSCAA Third-Team All-Great Lakes ... Smale was also named All-Conference USA first team.

Jeremy Williams
Co-MVP, Men's Cross Country
Posted three team-leading times on the season, as well as three top-10 finishes ... Took second at the Conference USA Championships, landing him a a spot on the All-Conference USA First Team, as well as Freshman of the Year honors.
