The Week in Review ...

Women?s Tennis (5-17)

? In their first day of competition at the Conference USA tournament, 11th-seeded Marquette fell to the Louisville Cardinals, 4-1. Down 1-0 after doubles play, Marquette looked to gain momentum heading into singles play. The effort of Dominika Dabrowski was not enough to bring Marquette back. Dabrowski was the only Golden Eagle able come up with a victory dominating Louisville?s Tiffany Fox, 6-1, 6-0.

In the second day of competition at the Conference USA tennis tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, Marquette came up short against Cincinnati, 4-2. Erin Watkins teamed with Elsemike Doktor to win at the no. 2 singles, while Francina Bonnelly and Andrea Bukacek claimed a win at the no 3 spot to take the doubles point.

Men?s Tennis (11-14)

? Sixth-seeded USF defeated No. 11 seed Marquette 4-0 Thursday in the first round of the C-USA Tournament. On Friday, the men?s tennis season ended with a 4-1 loss to East Carolina in the consolation round. Marquette's Greg Sirotek defeated Florian Tremmell 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 5 to pick up Marquette?s point in the match.


? Marquette moved up one spot in the final standings at the Conference USA Men's Golf Championship to finish ninth on Wednesday. Marquette shot a 287 in the final round, bettering its second round total by 21 strokes. That total was the second best total of the day, behind TCU, the tournament winner. The Golden Eagles shot 901 (37-over par) for the 52 holes.

Sophomore Michael Bielawksi shot a team-best 69 in the final round to shoot up in the standings. He vaulted 14 places to 19th, finishing with a five-over 221. Freshman Ted Gray was one shot behind, shooting par for the day. He placed 26th finishing at 223.

Outdoor Track and Field

? Due to inclement weather the entire Marquette track and field team did not travel to Illinois for the Central Collegiate Championships. Although only the throwers attended the meet, the Golden Eagles managed some impressive finishes. On the women?s side, senior Emily Leklem finished third in the shot put with a distance of 46-feet 0 3/4 inches. Andrea Engelmann and Jessica Ehlen both had top 10 finishes in the hammer throw. Engelmann came in second after a throw of 174-feet 8-inches. Ehlen, with a throw of 139-feet 9-inches finished 10th.

On the men?s side, Damian Anisko placed seventh in the hammer with a distance of 165-feet 7-inches, earned the men two points. Jonathan Rosploch placed eighth in the shot put with a heave of 50-feet 2-inches.

? Marquette freshman golfer Ted Gray was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team.

? The Marquette track and field team will take part in one of the most prestigious meets in the country, the Drake Relays. The weekend long event runs through Saturday, April 30, and takes place in Des Moines, Iowa.

Saturday, April 30

? Members of the track and field team will also compete at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill.
