19 Marquette Student-Athletes Earn C-USA Academic Medal

113 Earn C-USA Honor Roll Status

MILWAUKEE -- Conference USA honored its student-athletes for excellence in the classroom and several Marquette student-athletes were among the C-USA honorees.

Nineteen student-athletes were awarded Conference USA Academic Medals of Honor for maintaining a cumulative 3.75 GPA throughout the academic year. For maintaining a cumulative 3.00 GPA through the academic year, 113 student-athletes were named to the C-USA's Commissioner's Honor Roll.

The women's cross country squad and the women's soccer squad dominated the Marquette list. Seven cross country runners were on the Academic Medal list, while 27 of 31 women's soccer players maintained a 3.00 GPA or better.

Five of the seven Marquette golfers made it to the honor roll, while 28 members from the women's track squad owned a GPA of 3.0 or better.

Members of the women's cross country team that received an Academic Medal include: Brianna Dahm, Jessica Keber, Rachel Kirvan, Sandy Fondow, Jodi Jakubek, Theresa Emond and Susana Emond. Four women's soccer players received the medal including Katie Michuda, Alison Loughrin, Jennifer Baker and Brittney Lewis. Three each from the men's track and field and women's track and field team have a 3.75 or better. They are: Damian Anisko, Peter Geary and Ryan Seebruck from the men's team and Christina Ledonne, Andrea Engelmann and Nicole Halama from the women's team. Kelly Schwerman from women's basketblall and Tomasz Czernuszewicz from the men's tennis team were the other recipients of the Academic Medal.

Sport by sport for the honor roll, women's track led the way with 28 (including cross country members); women's soccer had 27; men's track had 19 (including cross country members); women's cross country had 11; men's soccer had nine; men's cross country had eight; women's tennis and volleyball each had seven; men's tennis, women's basketball and golf each had five and men's basketball had one.

The total number of honor roll members are up from last year. Marquette has 10 more honor roll members from a year ago.
