128 Golden Eagles Honored by the BIG EAST Conference

The BIG EAST Conference honored its student-athletes for their achievements inside the classroom Thursday and several of Marquette's finest from on and off the field were included on the list.
One hundred and twenty eight (128) Marquette student-athletes were named 2006-07 BIG EAST Academic All-Stars, an honor bestowed to those competitors who maintained a 3.0 grade-point average or higher in both the fall and spring semesters.
Women's track and field had 34 student-athletes represented on the list, the most of any Golden Eagle sport. Of the 24, 13 were members of the cross country team. Women's soccer had the second largest representation with 27 of its 32 team members holding a GPA of 3.0 or better.
Women's tennis placed nine from its 12-member squad on the list, while the men's track and field team had the highest representation among all men's teams with 25 of its student-athletes being recognized. Nine of them also competed for the men's cross country team.
Rounding out the Marquette list were the men's soccer team with 13 members, the men's tennis team which added seven student-athletes. Men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball team each added four members, while men's golf had one member from its team as an academic all-star.
In all, the BIG EAST recognized 37 seniors, 33 freshman, 32 juniors and 26 sophomores from Marquette.
For the 2005-06 season, 108 Golden Eagles were named BIG EAST Academic All-Stars.
