Blue & Gold Fund Surpasses Goal In 2013-14

July 15, 2014

The Blue & Gold Athletic Scholarship Fund, which directly supports athletic scholarships at Marquette University, has announced a record total of nearly $4.3 million raised during the 2013-14 fiscal year.

A total of 4,612 generous donors were responsible for surpassing the annual goal, marking the third-straight year there was an increase in Blue & Gold Fund support. There were numerous reasons for the increase, with one of the more notable factors being the participation of more former student-athletes than any other year.

“Thank you to all of our donors for stepping up in support of our student-athletes and being an important part in setting a new record,” Interim Vice President and Director of Athletics Bill Cords said. “The generosity of this group has provided MU student-athletes scholarship support and the opportunity to excel as students, athletes and persons for others. That is what Marquette is all about, being as good as you can be in all that you do.”

The ultimate goal of the Blue & Gold Fund is to fully fund all of the 135 athletic scholarships (16 NCAA Division I affiliated programs) through annual support or endowment proceeds. All of Marquette’s athletics’ donors are helping to close the gap and eagerly responded to the ambitious goal of $4.2 set at the beginning of the year.

“Thank you to our donors for their ongoing support of Marquette Athletics and the Blue & Gold Fund,” said Joe True, Associate Athletic Director for Development. “As we strive to fully fund all athletic scholarships, we want to thank our donors for a record-breaking year for supporting student-athlete scholarships.”

Scholarship support is imperative as each of Marquette’s programs continue to strive for excellence in competition, the classroom and the community.
