Marquette Athletics' annual report released Wednesday

With the new academic year beginning on Aug. 28, Vice President & Director of Athletics Bill Scholl looks back at Marquette's very successful 2016-17 campaign, while also previewing the department's vision moving forward.

Students move in across campus

Thursday marked move-in day across campus, including for Marquette Athletics’ freshman and sophomore student-athletes. Individuals at McCormick and Abbottsford also received a helping hand from head men’s basketball coach Steve Wojciechowski on Thursday morning. The 2017-18 academic year marks the last for men’s basketball in the BMO Harris Bradley Center and MU freshmen in McCormick Hall before both move into new buildings.

WSOC hosts Drake in lone home event this weekend

Fresh off a win over Kentucky on Sunday, the women’s soccer team welcomes Drake to the Valley on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Marquette Ticket Office at 414-288-GOMU (4668) or at the east middle gate on game days. The first 200 students at Friday’s game will receive an MU blender bottle.

MSOC and VB begin seasons Friday

The men’s soccer and women’s volleyball teams both begin their regular seasons on Friday with road matches. Men’s soccer heads to Lexington, Kentucky to take on UK at 6:30 p.m. Central time, while volleyball begins its season at the Texaco Rainbow Wahine Invitational with a match against tournament-host No. 20 Hawai’i at 11:55 p.m. CT. Volleyball will also face No. 13 UCLA and No. 22 San Diego before departing Honolulu.

Men’s golf adds Trake Carpenter as assistant coach

Head coach Steve Bailey announced the addition of new assistant coach Trake Carpenter on Tuesday afternoon.

Prior to his arrival at Marquette, Carpenter was the assistant golf professional at Ivanhoe Club in Mundelein, Illinois. He coordinated tournaments and oversaw day-to-day guest operations on the course. After graduating from Ball State in 2012, Carpenter spent three seasons as an assistant at his alma mater under Mike Fleck.

As a four-year golfer at Ball State, his collegiate highlights included career low round (67) and event scores (209) during his senior year in 2011-12, and he was co-medalist at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. That season, he earned Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar honors and was the recipient of the Ball State Earl Yestingsmeier Student-Athlete Award, given to a graduating men’s golf senior who displays distinguished athletic, academic and community credentials. He earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors in 2011 and was named Ball State’s Most Improved Player in 2010.

Marquette's fall 2017 broadcast schedule features a full slate of live home events, highlighted by Spectrum Sports in Wisconsin telecasts, and 16 total showings on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
