The Week in Review

Women?s Soccer (3-2-0)

The Marquette women?s soccer team defeated Wis.-Milwaukee, 1-0, on Sept. 8. Ashley George?s goal in the 48th minute proved to be the difference in the game as her 27-yard shot found the far post. Marquette was scheduled to play at Miami (Fla.) on Sept. 12, but the game was indefinitely postponed due to Hurricane Ivan.

Men?s Soccer (0-3-0, 0-1-0 C-USA)

The Marquette men?s soccer team lost 2-0 to Oakland in its only contest of the week on Sept. 10. Oakland scored twice in the first six minutes. Marquette held the Golden Grizzlies scoreless the rest of the contest.

Volleyball (4-2)

The Marquette volleyball team went 2-1 in the Radisson Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich. Marquette opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over Maine. Marquette lost to Rutgers, 3-1, and defeated Western Michigan, 3-1 in the final day of the tournament. Theresa Coughlin and Erica Heisser were named to the all-tournament team.

Cross Country

The Marquette men?s and women?s cross country teams each posted victories in the Bradley Invitational on Sept. 10. Brent Des Roches won the individual event on the men?s side, while Jodi Jakubek won the women?s individual race. Marquette had five top 10 finishers on the women?s side and three on the men?s.

Opens its season on Friday, Sept. 17 at the Ball State Invitational.

Women?s Tennis

Opens its season on Friday, Sept. 17 at the Western Michigan Tournament.

Men?s Golf

Opens its season on Monday, Sept. 13 at the John Piper Intercollegiate.

Games to Watch

Tuesday, Sept. 14

The Marquette men?s golf team plays in the final round of the John Piper Intercollegiate, its first tournament of the season.

Friday, Sept. 17

A busy day for Marquette athletics begins with men?s tennis opening up its fall season at the Ball State Invitational. The women?s squad begins its fall slate as well, playing in the Western Michigan Tournament.

Men?s golf continues its two-tournament week with the first two rounds of the Northern Intercollegiate in Madison, Wis.

Men?s soccer visits Drake in the first of two weekend road contests.

The women?s soccer team hosts in-state rival Wis.-Green Bay at 7 p.m. at Valley Fields. Marquette is coming off a win over another in-state rival, Wis.-Milwaukee, last week.

The volleyball team hosts the Jesuit Joust this weekend at the Al McGuire Center. The tournament gets underway with South Dakota State and Loyola (Ill.) at 4:30 p.m. before Marquette meets Boston College at 7 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 18

Men?s and women?s cross country continue their seasons with a trip to Wis.-Parkside for the Midwest Collegiate Championships.

Volleyball concludes its tournament with Loyola (Ill.) and Boston College at 10:30 a.m.; Marquette against South Dakota State at 12:30 p.m.; South Dakota State and Boston College at 4:30 p.m.; and Marquette facing Loyola (Ill.) at 7 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 19

Men?s soccer visits 13th ranked Creighton in a key regional matchup.

Women?s soccer opens its Conference USA season at defending C-USA Tournament champion DePaul.
