The Week in Review ...

Women?s Soccer (4-3-0, 0-1-0 C-USA)

Junior Julie Thompson?s two goals led the Marquette women?s soccer team to a 4-1 win over Wis.-Green Bay at Valley Fields on Friday. Junior midfielder Lindsay Michuda and sophomore forward Kristie Matola also had goals. On Sunday, Marquette dropped its Conference USA opener to DePaul, 3-0, in Chicago.

Men?s Soccer (1-4-0, 0-1-0 C-USA)

The Marquette men?s soccer team earned its first victory of the season Friday night with a 2-0 win at Drake in Des Moines, Iowa. Senior Chris Lee scored his first goal of the season on a pass from sophomore Bryan Dahlquist. Lee scored another goal in a 2-1 loss to 16th-ranked Creighton in Omaha, Neb., on Sunday.

Volleyball (6-3)

The Marquette volleyball team went 2-1 for the third time in a weekend tournament. Marquette hosted the Jesuit Joust on Friday and Saturday. The Golden Eagles cruised to 3-0 wins over Boston College on Friday and South Dakota State on Saturday morning. Loyola (Ill.) claimed the tournament title with a 3-0 win over Marquette on Saturday night. Freshman Kimberley Todd and senior Erin Freer were named to the all-tournament team.

Cross Country

The Marquette men?s and women?s cross country teams competed at the Midwestern Collegiate Championships with its ?B? teams. Junior Tara Hinke led the way for the Golden Eagles as she placed 31st with a time of 19:26 for the 5-kilometer course. Sophomore Matt Scott took 172nd on the men?s side with a time of 28:59.

Men?s Tennis

In the Ball State Invitational, sophomore Tomek Czernuszewicz and freshman Greg Sirotek were the victors of the Flight D main draw, winning all three of their matches. Senior Troy Delmege and freshman Pete Van Lieshout won the Flight C doubles consolation draw. Juniors Ian Kawas and Ricky Servoss won the Flight C back draw. Sirotek also advanced to his flight?s semifinal round in singles play.

Women?s Tennis

Women?s tennis started its season at the Bronco Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich. The doubles team of sophomore Francina Bonnelly and freshman Katie Donovan went 2-0, to have the best showing of the event. Freshmen Erin Watkins, Maria Calbeto and Donovan picked up wins in singles play.

Men?s Golf

Marquette posted the best final round total to win the 2004 John Piper Intercollegiate in Bowling Green, Ohio, by 11 strokes. Junior Joe Weber finished second in the individual standings after carding a final-round 69. Later in the week, Marquette finished fifth in the Northern Intercollegiate in Verona, Wis. Junior Kyle Murphy led Marquette as he was in a ninth place tie at even par, 216.

Senior setter Sarah Vernon was named Conference USA Setter-of-the-Week on Sept. 13.

Junior Jodi Jakubek and junior Brent Des Roches were named Conference USA Athletes-of-the-Week in Cross Country on Sept. 13

Games to Watch ...

Tuesday, Sept. 21

? Marquette volleyball returns to action after a two-day break with a match on Tuesday, Sept. 21 against Wis.-Milwaukee. The two teams have met 65 times in series history. The contest begins at 7 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center.

Wednesday, Sept. 22

? After picking up a big road win against Drake on Friday, the Marquette men?s soccer team returns home to take on UIC at Valley Fields at 7 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 24

? Women?s soccer has a challenging weekend. The team travels to Santa Clara for a two-match tournament. The first contest is against Santa Clara.

? Marquette volleyball faces its third future BIG EAST opponent of the season. Marquette takes on Connecticut at 6 p.m. EDT.

Saturday, Sept. 25

? The men?s and women?s cross country teams run in the prestigious Iona Meet of Champions. The meet is being held on the same course as next year?s BIG EAST Cross Country Championship.

? Men?s soccer hosts UAB in a key conference match up. The Blazers own a 1-0 record in C-USA play.

? Volleyball finishes up its week taking on Md.-Eastern Shore.

Sunday, Sept. 25

? Women?s soccer takes on west coast power Stanford in the second match of a weekend tournament in Santa Clara, Calif.
