The Week in Review ...

Volleyball (7-6, 1-1 BIG EAST)

? The Marquette Volleyball team earned its first BIG EAST Conference win on Friday sweeping USF, 3-0 (30-24, 32-30, 30-27), at the Al McGuire Center. Senior Theresa Coughlin led the way for Marquette hitting over 34 percent behind 11 kills, while sophomore Tiffany Helmbrecht contributed 10 kills and five block assists. On Sunday, the Marquette volleyball team could not hold on to a two game lead and dropped a heartbreaking match to BIG EAST foe Georgetown in five games, 3-2 (30-27, 30-17, 27-30, 18-30, 11-15) at the Al McGuire Center. Coughlin led Marquette with her fifth double-double of the season notching 21 kills and 16 digs.

Women?s Soccer (8-1-1, 2-1 BIG EAST)

? Paced by goals from junior Alison Loughrin and sophomore Lauren Weber, the 15th-ranked Marquette women?s soccer team defeated Loyola (Ill.), 2-0, in Chicago, on Tuesday. Marquette suffered its first defeat of the season on Friday, 2-1, at no. 12 Connecticut. Loughrin scored her second goal of the week in the contest. Marquette earned a 2-0 win at home against Providence on a rainy Sunday at Valley Fields. Weber provided one of the two goals along with one from sophomore Emily Fitzpatrick.

Men?s Soccer (4-3-1, 1-2-1 BIG EAST)

? Hampered by an early penalty kick goal by Cincinnati on Friday, Marquette couldn't recover from the deficit and lost 2-0 at Valley Fields in the first BIG EAST men's soccer game played at the facility. Under a constant and sometimes heavy rain on Sunday, MU struck for two goals en route to a 2-1 win over Louisville. The win is the program's first in BIG EAST play. Junior Matt Blouin and senior Blair Kohlmeyer were the goal scorers.

Cross Country

? The 30th-ranked Marquette women?s cross country team finished in a tie for seventh place in the Gold Race at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday. The Golden Eagles totaled 222 points, tying them with defending BIG EAST champion Providence. Sophomore Cassie Peller was the first Marquette runner to cross the line, finishing 36th overall in a time of 22:05. On the men?s side, Marquette finished 22nd overall. Sophomore Kyle Saginus was MU?s first finisher, crossing the line in 45th place in a time of 25:13.

Women?s Tennis

? Sophomore Erin Watkins went 3-0 in singles play and picked up two doubles wins with junior Dominika Dabrowski to lead the Marquette women?s tennis team at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. MU went 2-1 in singles play, defeating Dayton on Friday and Wis.-Green Bay on Sunday. Marquette also defeated UWGB in doubles on Saturday and Dayton on Sunday.

Men?s Tennis

? The Marquette men?s tennis team swept seven singles matches against IPFW on Saturday to highlight its three days in the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Greg Sirotek, Pete Van Lieshout and Eigis Vedrickas all picked up multiple singles wins on the weekend. Ian Kawas paired with Vedrickas to pick up two doubles wins as well.

? The Marquette golf team returns to action after a good performance in their season opener two weeks ago. MU takes part in the 54-hole Cardinal Intercollegiate in Simpsonville, Ky.

Tuesday, September 27

? The golfers finish up play at the Cardinal Intercollegiate.

Friday, September 30

? Women?s tennis jumps right back into action, taking part in the three-day Wolverine Invitational.
? Volleyball continues its four-match homestand, taking on DePaul at 7 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center.
? Women?s soccer hosts defending national champion Notre Dame at Valley Fields at 7 p.m.

Saturday, October 1

? Women?s tennis continues action at the Wolverine Invitational.
? Cross country looks to continue its strong season taking part in the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational in Chicago at 10:30 a.m.
? Men?s soccer looks for back-to-back BIG EAST wins as it visits Connecticut at 7 p.m. EDT in Storrs, Conn.

Sunday, October 2

? Women?s tennis concludes the Wolverine Invitational.
? Volleyball looks to set a school attendance record, hosting Notre Dame at the Al McGuire Center at 1 p.m.
? Women?s soccer hosts DePaul in a 1 p.m. start at Valley Fields.
