The Week in Review ...

Women?s Soccer (4-5-0, 0-1-0 C-USA)

? The Marquette women?s soccer team lost 2-0 to no. 15 Santa Clara in the Santa Clara adidas Tournament on Friday night. Marquette battled Santa Clara to a scoreless draw for 76 minutes. Marquette was unable to respond to the high-powered offense of no. 20 Stanford as it dropped a 5-0 decision on Sunday in the Santa Clara adidas Tournament. Senior goalkeeper Katie junior Bissen and midfielder Julie Thompson were both named to the all-tournament team. Bissen recorded 11 saves over the weekend.

Men?s Soccer (2-5-0, 0-2-0 C-USA)

? On Wednesday, Marquette senior Chris Lee scored four minutes into the match to lead the Golden Eagles past UIC at Valley Fields, 2-0. Junior Matt Soper scored Marquette's second goal on assists from Lee and junior Matt Blouin. Marquette dropped a close 2-1 match to UAB on Saturday at Valley Fields despite outshooting the Blazers 23-12 in the match. Lee scored his fourth goal of the season in the match.

Volleyball (9-3)

? The Marquette volleyball team swept Wis.-Milwaukee (30-26, 30-24, 30-21) on Tuesday. Junior Theresa Coughlin recorded her 1,000 career kill and senior Sarah Vernon recorded her 1,000 career assist on the same play in the third game. Marquette won its two matches in the Toyota Husky Classic, to win the tournament. Marquette defeated Connecticut on Friday, 3-1 (27-30, 30-16, 30-15, 30-28), and swept Md.-Eastern Shore in three games (30-24, 30-14, 30-16) on Saturday. Senior Erica Heisser was named the Toyota Husky Classic tournament MVP after having 29 kills over the two-matches in the tournament. Senior Libero Erin Freer and freshman outside hitter Kimberely Todd were also named all-tournament.

Cross Country

? The Marquette men's and 18th-ranked women's cross country teams both had solid performances at the Iona Meet of Champions in the Bronx, N.Y. The women placed second while the men took eighth. The women's team was again led by junior Jodi Jakubek who finished 9th overall with a 6-km time of 21:55.2. Freshman Cassie Peller turned in her second straight solid performance taking 17th with a time of 22:14.1. The only team Marquette placed behind was no. 12 Wake Forest. The men were again led by junior Brent Des Roches who placed ninth overall with a time of 25:20.1 for the 8-km course. The next Marquette finisher was junior Jason Crichton who took 37th with a time of 26:13.5.

Monday, Sept. 27

? The Marquette men?s golf team swings into action for its third of five fall events, taking part in The Cardinal Intercollegiate. The Golden Eagles own two top-five finishes, including one team victory, this season.

Tuesday, Sept. 28

? Play concludes for the golf team in The Cardinal Intercollegiate

Wednesday, Sept. 29

? In the lone home soccer event of the week, the Marquette men?s team faces an up-and-coming Louisville squad. Louisville will be playing its first Conference USA match. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 1

? Women?s tennis returns to action with a tournament at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. The event runs through Sunday, Oct. 3.

? Women?s soccer continues a four-match road trip taking on Conference USA opponent Charlotte at 7 p.m. EDT.

? Volleyball returns home to start its Conference USA season taking on Cincinnati at 7 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center. Marquette puts a three-match win streak on the line.

Saturday, Oct. 2

? Coming off a strong finish at The Iona Meet of Champions, the Marquette cross country teams make a short trip to Chicago for the Loyola Lakefront Invitational.

? Men?s soccer hits the road for the first of three straight matches away from Milwaukee, taking on Memphis at 7 p.m.

? The volleyball team concludes its weekend against defending Conference USA champion Louisville at 7 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center. Louisville enters the week ranked 15th in the USA Today/AVCA Top 25.

Sunday, Oct. 3

? Women?s soccer concludes the week with a visit to East Carolina at 1 p.m. EDT.
