The Week in Review ...
Women?s Soccer (5-5-1, 1-1-1 C-USA)
? Marquette sophomore Alison Loughrin recorded the first hat trick of her career as the Golden Eagles defeated Charlotte, 4-0, on Friday night. It was the third shutout of the season for senior goalkeeper Katie Bissen. On Sunday, Marquette played to a 2-2 tie with East Carolina to close its five-game road trip. Loughrin scored her fourth goal of the weekend and junior Sarah Uyenishi added Marquette?s second goal.
Men?s Soccer (2-6-1, 0-3-1 C-USA)
? On Wednesday, Marquette played to a 2-2 tie against Louisville. Junior Blair Kohlmeyer found senior Danny Mullin for the first goal. Senior Chris Lee scored with 13 minutes left to earn the draw. Marquette lost on Saturday to Memphis, 3-1. Sophomore Matt Blouin scored Marquette?s only goal on an assist from freshman Mike Manone.
Volleyball (9-5, 0-2 C-USA)
? Marquette volleyball started its Conference USA season on Friday. The Golden Eagles lost to Cincinnati, 3-0 (30-14, 31-29, 30-28) at the Al McGuire Center. Junior outside hitter Theresa Coughlin led Marquette with 15 kills. Senior Libero Erin Freer had 13 digs. Despite 12 kills from Coughlin and 11 from senior middle blocker Erica Heisser, Marquette lost to no. 21 Louisville, 3-0 (30-24, 30-22, 30-26), on Saturday. Marquette set a school record for attendance with 733.
? The 29th-ranked Marquette women?s cross country team took first overall at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Saturday and the men?s team took eighth at the same meet. Sophomore Heidi Lindeman took second place overall, covering the 5-kilometer course in 17:26, just two seconds behind DePaul?s Leah Rygh. The men were again led by junior Brent Des Roches who took eighth overall with an 8-kilometer time of 24:46.
? Sophomore Callan Smith won all four of her matches in the ?Wolverine? flight of the 2004 Wolverine Invitational to earn the title in the flight. She defeated Bowling Green?s Andrea Meister 6-1, 6-1 on Sunday in the flight final. Smith improved her singles record to 6-1 on the season. Freshman Elisabeth Dokter also had a successful tournament. After an opening round loss, Dokter rebounded to win the consolation round of the same draw. She defeated Jenna Nussbaum, also of Bowling Green, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0.
? Freshman Brett Binkley and junior Eigis Vedrickas competed in the 2004 Icy Hot/ITA Men?s All-American Championships. Faced with a field of stiff competition, both players lost their opening round singles matches and paired for a loss in the opening round in doubles.

Tuesday, Oct. 5
? The first of two Marquette contests takes place in Green Bay on Tuesday. The volleyball team steps out of conference to take on Wis.-Green Bay at the Phoenix Sports Center at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 6
? The men?s soccer team follows the volleyball team with a contest at Wis.-Green Bay. The Golden Eagles and Phoenix kick off at 7 p.m. at Phoenix Field.
Friday, Oct. 8
? The volleyball team has just one Conference USA match this weekend. The Golden Eagles host DePaul on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Al McGuire Center.
? Marquette women?s soccer plays the first of six October home matches on Friday. The Golden Eagles take on Cincinnati at 7 p.m. at Valley Fields.
Sunday, Oct. 10
? The men?s soccer team finishes a three-match road trip at East Carolina on Sunday at noon EDT.
? The women?s soccer team has its second of six matches at home in October on Sunday. The Golden Eagles host Louisville at 1 p.m at Valley Fields.
