MU recorded its third straight win and its first BIG EAST weekend sweep on Sunday in the Al McGuire Center defeating Rutgers, 3-0 (30-23, 30-28, 30-22). Collectively, the Golden Eagles outkilled the Scarlet Knights 58-42 with three Golden Eagles, Senior Theresa Coughlin (11 kills), junior Jamie Mueller (15 kills) and Todd (17 kills), notching double figure kills.
Women?s Soccer (17-2-1)
? Christy Zwolski's goal with just 1:15 left in regulation propelled the 11th-ranked Golden Eagles to a 2-1 victory over Louisville in the quarterfinal round of the 2005 BIG EAST Championship on Sunday. After a Louisville goal in the seventh minute, MU scored the equalizer late in the second half. After a throw-in, junior Meghan Connelly dribbled into the box and was taken down by a Louisville defender and whistled for a foul. MU took advantage of the ensuing penalty kick, as Julie Thompson netted the score. As time was winding down in the second half, Thompson and Lindsay Michuda set up the gamewinner by Zwolski, left-to-right, as the sophomore from Libertyville, Ill. slipped her shot past Cardinal goalkeeper Deana Weintraub at the 88:45 mark. The win was also the 150th career victory for head coach Markus Roeders. In his 10th season at MU, he has compiled a 150-55-16 (.715) overall record.
Men?s Soccer (5-10-1, 1-8-1 BIG EAST)
? The 14th-ranked Seton Hall men's soccer team defeated the Marquette men's soccer team, 3-1, on Wednesday. MU converted on one of its many chances in the 86th minute, when freshman Nick Kay scored his first career goal, catching Pirate goalkeeper Ian Joyce off-guard in front of his box, and took a shot that sailed over his head. On Saturday, Marquette bounced back after being down two goals, but lost to West Virginia, 3-1. Junior Bryan Dahlquist collected a cross to the far post from senior Blair Kohlmeyer. Dahlquist second half strike came from six yards out to cut the deficit to one.
