10th Annual Hank Raymonds Scholarship Auction & Raffle To Be Held on Saturday (Nov. 10)
Nov. 9, 2001
Milwaukee -- The 10th Annual Hank Raymonds Scholarship Auction and Raffle will take place on Saturday, November 10, in the Monaghan Ballroom of the Alumni Memorial Union on the Marquette campus. Money raised through the event benefits the Blue and Gold Athletic Scholarship Fund in Hank Raymonds' name. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. An oral auction will take place at 9:00 p.m.
Hank Raymonds devoted over 25 years of service to Marquette as a basketball coach and athletic director. At his retirement party in 1987, he was presented with a gift of $10,000 in appreciation for his outstanding service to Marquette. He donated the gift back to Marquette, requesting that the money be used to establish an endowment fund in support of non-revenue generating sports. As a result of his generosity and service, the Hank Raymonds Scholarship Auction and Raffle was created and has evolved into an annual event to raise funds for scholarship support of non-revenue sports.
This year, in celebration of 10 successful years of fund raising for the Hank Raymonds Auction & Raffle, one of Hank Raymonds' former basketball players and community leader, Ulice Payne, Jr., will speak on his experience as a student-athlete. Also in attendance will be many of Hank's former players including Bo Ellis, the head basketball coach at Chicago State, Robert Byrd, the founder of Bridging the Gap School and First Tee Program, Kerry Trotter, an admissions representative at Marquette, and George Thompson, Vice President for Communications at Briggs & Stratton.
Close to 350 guests are expected to attend including current Marquette University coaches, scholar-athlete recipients and many friends of Marquette athletics. Last year, the event raised over $150,000.
