The Week in Review ...
Women?s Basketball (5-1)
? Danielle Kamm poured in 16 points to lead all Marquette scorers, as the Golden Eagles won 71-59 at Wisconsin on Friday. The 6-2 junior shot 6-for-14 from the floor and grabbed seven boards in 37 minutes of play. Junior Christina Quaye added 14 points and sophomore Svetlana Kovalenko added 10 points and six rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. For Marquette, the win was its third straight win and fifth in the last six games over the Badgers. Freshman Krystal Ellis and junior Jasmine McCullough each scored 14 points, as Marquette won its third game in a row, downing Rhode Island, 64-49, on Sunday at the Al McGuire Center. For Ellis, it was a career-high effort. The freshman from Racine was 5-for-9 from the floor and connected on 4-of-5 from the free throw line. She also added an assist, a block, and a steal in 17 minutes of action.
Men?s Basketball (5-2)
? Nebraska held off a second-half Marquette rally to take an 84-74 win Wednesday in Lincoln, Neb. Freshman Dominic James led all scorers with 22 points. Freshman Wesley Matthews scored 18 for Marquette and senior Steve Novak added 13. Five Golden Eagles scored in double figures as the Marquette men?s basketball team earned a 87-52 victory over South Dakota State on Saturday. James led Marquette with 14 points. MU shot 61 percent from the field and was 50 percent from beyond the arc (6-of-12). The Jackrabbits shot just 34 percent for the game (17-of-50), a season low for a Marquette opponent, and MU forced a season-high 32 total turnovers. Along with James 14 points, Novak contributed 12 points, sophomore Dan Fitzgerald added 11 and Matthews and sophomore Ousmane Barro each added 10 points apiece. Both Barro and Fitzgerald were perfect from the field hitting all 10 of their combined attempts.
? Freshman guard Jerel McNeal was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week by the league office on Monday, November 28.
Games to Watch ...
Tuesday, December 6
? The Marquette women?s basketball team opens up its tenure in the BIG EAST, hosting St. John?s at 7 p.m. in the Al McGuire Center in front of a nationally televised audience. The game will be carried on CSTV.
Wednesday, December 7
? The Marquette men?s basketball team hosts Valparaiso at 7 p.m. at the Bradley Center.
Friday, December 9
? The women?s basketball team visits Penn State at 7 p.m. EST for its toughest non-conference road match up of the season.
Saturday, December 10
? Indoor track heads to Normal, Ill., to compete in the Redbird Invitational, which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
