Blue & Gold Fund Auction Raises Record $350K
Dec. 8, 2014
The Blue & Gold Fund Auction, which supports student-athlete scholarship aid at Marquette University, enjoyed a record-setting night on Friday, Dec. 5.
Nearly 450 guests (more than double from previous years) packed the third floor of the Alumni Memorial Union and combined to raise a record-shattering $350,000. The top items in the live auction were dinners with head men’s basketball coach Steve Wojciechowski and Marquette President Dr. Michael R. Lovell.
This year marked the first time the event had been moved to December and was held the night before the annual men’s basketball matchup with rival Wisconsin. Dennis Klumb, Jr. and Jim Meier served as the host committee and Steve “Homer” True was the evening’s master of ceremonies. Track & field student-athlete and president of SAAC Haley Loprieno also delivered a powerful message on her experience at Marquette.
The Blue & Gold Fund Holiday Blitz is also currently underway and is a month-long effort to increase the number of scholarships the Blue & Gold Fund can provide Marquette student-athletes.
Last December, Marquette fans made a huge impact on student-athletes by donating more than $200,000 in scholarship support during the first Blue & Gold Fund Holiday Blitz. This year, the Blue & Gold Fund has set a goal of $250,000. All gifts made in the month of December will be credited in support of the Holiday Blitz.
The ultimate goal of the Blue & Gold Fund is to fully fund all of the 135 athletic scholarships (16 NCAA Division I affiliated programs) through annual support or endowment proceeds. Scholarship support is imperative as each of Marquette’s programs continue to strive for excellence in competition, the classroom and the community.
