Hank Raymonds Scholarship Auction A Huge Success
Milwaukee -- Over 350 guests gathered at the Alumni Memorial Union on Marquette's campus on Saturday, November 11, 2000, to pay tribute to Hank Raymonds and to show their support of Marquette Athletics.
Included in the items auctioned off were a trip to the Alaska Shootout in November 2001, a golf outing with Women's Basketball Coach Terri Mitchell, and a two week stay in a Florida condo. For the Grand Finale, a special item donated by Al McGuire was auctioned off for more than $7,000. The item was a banner reading, "Get Well, Al" that the former MU coaching legend received from over twenty NCAA coaches and Michael Jordan. Each had signed a special message to Al. When introduced, the surprise item struck the audience silent. Another success of the event was the Hank Raymonds Raffle, which reached a record of over $56,000 in ticket sales.
The Hank Raymonds Scholarship Auction and Raffle brought in more than $153,000, an all-time record amount, in support of athletic scholarships, according to Bob Hutchison, who has served as the Auction Chairman for all nine years of the event's existence.
