The 2012-13 season will mark the first for Ben Burke at Marquette University, where he serves as General Manager for Nelligan Sports Marketing.
Burke arrives on campus from Cal Poly, where he worked for two seasons in a similar capacity for Nelligan. Under his guidance, the partnership significantly increased revenues for the University. Nelligan works with over 30 different colleges around the country.
Before coming to Nelligan, Ben worked in Major League Baseball running Salt River Fields, the brand new $300 million spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies. During his time in Arizona, Ben worked closely with Diamondback's team president Derrick Hall, Rockies team president Kelly McGregor and Salt River Pima-Maricopa Community Manager Bryan Meyers on the launch of Salt River Fields, a facility that would eventually break all single-season Cactus League attendance records.
Prior to Major League Baseball, Ben worked as the General Manager of a pair of minor league teams -- the Quad Cities River Bandits, the Class A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Schaumburg Flyers, an independent league team in suburban Chicago. Ben led a rebranding campaign for both teams during his time as General Manager, changing the Swing of the Quad Cities into the Quad Cities River Bandits, and updating the Schaumburg Flyers with new uniforms, colors, logos and marketing campaign.
Burke's 10-year career in sports has been highlighted by being the youngest General Manager in the Midwest League in 2007, selling naming rights to Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa, in 2008, being nominated for Ballpark Innovation of the Year in 2008 by Ballpark Digest, setting single-game and single-season attendance records with the Schaumburg Flyers in 2009, being nominated for Promotion of the Year in 2009 by Ballpark Digest, being the youngest General Manager in the Cactus League in 2010, and winning Employee of the Year for Nelligan Sports Marketing in 2010-2011.
Burke has an MBA from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, and resides in Milwaukee, Wis.
