BIG EAST Announces 2011-12 All-Academic Team Selections

The BIG EAST Conference has announced the names of more than 3,300 student-athletes who have been selected to the 2011-12 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
Of Marquette's total student-athlete population, over half were once again recognized by the conference office. Numerous Golden Eagles also combined to post a total of 21 4.0 semesters between the fall and spring terms.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 16 member institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
The nominations are reviewed and approved by the BIG EAST Academic Affairs Committee. There are 3,370 honorees for the 2012 academic year, an increase of 134 student-athletes from the 3,236 named for the 2010-11 season.
