Terri Mitchell Endowed Scholarship Surpasses $50K Level
Aug. 20, 2012
The Terri Mitchell Endowed Scholarship, which was created in 2010 with a leadership gift from Marquette’s head women’s basketball coach, recently reached a funding level in excess of $50K.
With the scholarship reaching this level, it will now be a permanent endowment and will benefit a women’s basketball student-athlete each year. In addition to the initial donation by Mitchell, over 50 supporters of the program also made contributions to the scholarship.
A second scholarship benefitting women’s basketball has also been established following the success of the first one and two more are expected in the future through estate planning.
Contributions to the Terri Mitchell Endowed Scholarship can continue to be made in the future.
Marquette currently has 51 endowed athletic funds. Endowed scholarships provide a lasting stream of income because Marquette holds the gift in perpetuity, investing the principal and using a portion of the annual return to fund scholarship awards for student-athletes. This provides permanent income and greater flexibility for use of funds received annually.
