Cross Country Season Unofficially Opens On Saturday With Blue & Gold Alumni Race

Saturday, Aug, 23 the Marquette cross country season unofficially opens as the "Blue and Gold Alumni Race" will be held at Bayview Park in St. Francis. All Marquette track and field and cross country alumni are invited and encouraged to participate in the two mile-long race. Festivities will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Steve Cottingham, Director of Athletics at Marquette University, recently announced that Bert Rogers has been named head coach of men's and women's track and field.

Rogers served as the acting head coach of both programs during the 2007-08 campaign. He spent the previous three seasons as an assistant coach at MU.

Freshman Tyler O'Brien became the sixth student-athlete from Marquette University to qualify for the 2008 NCAA Mid East Regional and reached a U.S. Junior National qualifying mark in the men's 200 meters Saturday. As the only Golden Eagle competing in the Cardinal Twilight meet in Louisville, Ky., O'Brien ran a school record time of 21.23 in team's last event before the regional meet.
