2010-11 BIG EAST All-Academic Marquette Women's Track & Field Freshman of the Year Indoor (Fr.): During her freshman year, Gaffey moved into the Marquette top-10 list in the shot put during both the indoor (No. 7) and outdoor seasons (No. 10) ... Threw the shot put and the weight throw indoors, reaching personal records of 46 feet, 5 1/4 inches (14.15 meters) at the Badger Track Classic (Jan. 15) and 47-7.25 (14.51 meters) at the Hoosier Hills Invitational (Feb. 11), respectively... Won the indoor shot put at the UWM Dual (Jan. 22) with a throw of 44-7 (13.59 meters)... Placed ninth at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in the shot put where she threw 45-10 (13.97 meters). Outdoor (Fr.): Competed in the shot put and discus at nine meets during the outdoor season ... Notched a top throw in the outdoor shot put on May 7 to place ninth at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships (44-6/13.56 meters), which is the No. 10 mark in program history ... Captured meet titles in the outdoor shot put at the USF Open (March 11) and the DePaul Invitational (April 16) ... High School: Gaffey earned four letters in track and field at Iowa City Regina High School and was a three-year captain. She finished third in the shot put at the 2010 Iowa 2A outdoor state meet with a toss of 38 feet, 7 1/2 inches and placed second in the discus. She also competed at the Iowa indoor Championships and earned fourth place in the shot put. Gaffey competed in 2009 and 2010 at the prestigious Drake Relays in the shot put and discus. In 2010, she earned runner-up honors in the discus and third place in the shot put. As a senior earned seventh place in the discus and eighth in the shot put at the national meet. In 2009, she was the runner-up at the state meet in the shot put and was a state qualifier every year of her high school career. While at Regina, the National Honor Society member recorded personal-best marks of 43' 9" in the shot put and 135-10 in the discus.
