MU looks to build on recent success at Minnesota
Personal Bests (as of June 2017):
Indoor (Jr.): Placed first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.86 seconds, fifth in the 200-meter dash at 21.99 seconds and fifth in the 4x400 with Whalen, Oechsner and Davis by a time of 3:19.67 at the BIG EAST Championships (2/23) ... Collected bronze at the GVSU Meet by a time of 6.85 (2/9) ... Placed third at the Jack Johnson Classic in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.85 and collected fourth with his 4x400 team with a finishing time of 3:43.03 (1/26) ... With a finishing of 6.90, Word topped all competition and his 4x400 team placed second at a pace of 3:21.44 during the John Tierney Classic (1/20) ... Collected gold with a time of 22.44 in the 200-meter dash and third in the 4x400 due toa 3:21.44 end time (12/1).
Indoor (Jr.): Set the school record in the 60-meter dash with a second place finish at the BIG EAST Championships ... Also at BIG EAST, set the No. 9 mark all-time in the 200-meter dash to place 11th overall ... Ran the third leg on the 4x400 relay team that reached the podium with a third place finish at BIG EAST ... Also set a personal-best performance in the 55 meters with a time of 6.56 seconds.
Outdoor (Jr.): Set the No. 6 mark all-time in the 100 meters with a time of 10.69 seconds in the prelims at the BIG EAST Championships and was leading the way in the finals before an unfortunate leg injury prevented yet another fast time ... Set numerous school records as the lead leg on the 4x100 relay team, ultimately recording a time of 40.71 seconds at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic (May 5) ... Also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x200 relay team that set the second-fastest time in school history with a mark of 1:26.66 at the Drake Relays (April 28) ... Set the fourth-fastest time at MU in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.54 to place 12th overall at the APU Bryan Clay Invitational (April 14).
Indoor (So.): Placed 10th overall at the BIG EAST Championships in the 60-meter dash, matching his personal-best set a month earlier with a time of 7.09 seconds ... Also placed 12th at BIG EAST in the 400 meters with a time of 52.02 seconds.
Outdoor (So.): Ran the leadoff leg on the 4x100 relay that set the school record with a time of 41.47 seconds at the Wisconsin Twilight (May 6) ... The same team of Word, Karl Tatum, Connor Boos and Brandon Bell nearly set the record again when they ran to gold at the BIG EAST Championships with a time of 41.77 seconds ... Ran a personal-best performance in the 200 meters at the Wisconsin Twilight with a time of 22.15 seconds ... Placed 12th overall in the event at the BIG EAST Championships with a time of 22.51 seconds.
Indoor (Fr.): Placed seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.10 seconds; 10th all-time at MU) and ninth in the 200-meter dash (22.62 seconds; personal-best) at the BIG EAST Championships ... Also set personal-best performances in the 300 meters with a 10th place finish in a time of 37.71 seconds at the John Tierney Triangular (Jan. 23) and in the 400 meters with a time of 51.04 seconds at the GVSU Big Meet (Feb. 13).
Outdoor (Fr.): Ran a personal-best time of 11.16 seconds and placed fourth in the 100 meters at the BIG EAST Championships ... Also took sixth at BIG EAST in the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 22.53 seconds ... Ran the third leg on the 4x400 relay that finished runner-up at BIG EAST with the No. 4 time in MU history of 3:13.80 ... Ran lead leg on the 4x100 relay that took fourth place at BIG EAST with a time of 42.31 seconds ...
Prior to Marquette: Word attended Loyola Academy in Winnetka, Illinois ... Finished 18th in the 60-meter dash while his team placed in the top 20 in the 4x400-meter relay at the IHSA 3A meet in 2014 ... Josh was varsity captain and was able to lead Loyola in points in both the indoor and outdoor 2014 season ... Helped Loyola capture conference championships in both the 2014 indoor and outdoor seasons.
Personal: Josh was born in Chicago to James Word and Allison Khan ... Major is business marketing.
