"Ryan was able to close out his prep career with appearances at the Wisconsin state meet in the 1,600 and 3,200 and set personal bests in both as a senior. He consistently ran in the low 16's for 5k during the cross country season and ended the year with a personal best of 16:00."

High School: Kaestner earned three letters in both cross country and track at Horlick High School... Named team captain his senior year (2012-13)... Was a 2011 and 2012 state qualifier in cross country... Earned first team all-conference in cross country for the 2011 and 2012 seasons... Was a three-time All-Racine County First Team honoree ... Selected in 2011 and 2012 as a Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association Academic All-State runner... Third-fastest 5k cross country runner in Horlick school history... Qualified for state in the 3,200 meter-race his junior year... Earned 2012 All-Racine County Second Team honors in track and field... School record holder for the distance medley relay... Holds personal-best marks with 1:59 in the 800, 4:23 in the 1,600, 9:28 in 3,200 and 16:00 in cross country (5k)... Winner of the Sonja Henning Award for best student-athlete at Horlick... Five-time first team all-conference athlete.

Personal: Kaestner was born in Racine, Wis., to Andrew and Jeanine Kaestner... Has a younger brother, Joshua... His father competed in the 1988 Olympics in the 50k race walk ... Kaestner graduated third in his class at Horlick ... Plans to major in mechanical engineering.
