Marquette Notches Over 30 Personal Bests at Badger Track Classic
Jan. 14, 2012 MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field team competed in their first meet of 2012 Saturday afternoon at the Badger Track Classic in Madison, Wis., at the Camp Randall Sports Center. The Golden Eagles recorded nine BIG EAST Indoor qualifying marks on the men's side, while the women also recorded a pair. Junior Kyle Winter, coming off a 600-meter run performance in which he moved into Marquette's top-10 all-time list at the Blue and Gold Invitational, recorded a personal record and the fourth-best time in school history to win the 600 in 1:20.71. All three men's throwers in the weight throw reached confernce marks with Bret Hardin and William Koeck placing third and fourth, respectively. Hardin led the way for MU with a distance of 54 feet, 8 1/4 inches (16.67 meters), while Koeck set the freshman record with a toss of 54 feet, 8 inches (16.66 meters). Junior Cheldon Brown notched the No. 5 mark in Marquette history and a BIG EAST-qualifying mark in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 8 1/4 inches (2.04 meters). Junior Sarah MacCourtney leaped 5-5.00 (1.65 meters) in the women's high jump to move into a tie for seventh place on MU's all-time list. In the men's 1,000-meter dash, junior Evan Ross recorded a conference-qualifying time of 2:29.11, the No. 10 mark in program history. The squad also recorded over 30 personal-best marks on the afternoon. Saturday marked the first competition of the season for the Marquette distance runners and throwers.
The Golden Eagles joined meet-host Wisconsin, UW-Whitewater and BIG EAST-rival DePaul as the four competing teams at The Shell. Marquette returns to action Friday in a dual meet against Milwaukee at the Klotsche Center. Marquette Women
