Track and Field Finishes Action at Notre Dame Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The Marquette University track and field squad concluded action at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday evening with multiple competitors reaching BIG EAST-qualifying marks.

"We had some of our athletes do a very nice job this evening," said head coach Bert Rogers. "I was very impressed by quite a few of the performances and we are ready to get back to work next week."

In the 3,000-meters juniors Anna Weber and Jayne Grebinski each recorded BIG EAST qualifying marks, finishing in 10:00.37 and 10:01.75, respectively. For Weber her time was also a personal best.

Junior Erynn James, in her first meet of the season, recorded a BIG EAST mark by jumping 5-07.00, just a quarter of an inch shy of a personal record.

In the pole vault, co-captain Liz Wilkie recorded another BIG EAST mark by hitting a distance of 11-01.75. Sophomore Alyssa Davis placed second in the triple jump, reaching 36-03.00.

On the men's side Michael O'Brien set a personal record and recorded a BIG EAST qualifying time in the 500-meters at 1:05.04. Eric Meissner also recorded a BIG EAST mark by running the 800 in 1:53.29.

Senior Mark Kopecki continued his strong performances this winter by setting a personal record and BIG EAST qualifying time of 4:14.05 in the mile. In the 3,000, Scott Mueller placed third while Kyle Saginus  and Brice Cleland rounded out the MU top-10 finishers.



The men and women both placed fourth at the meet, behind Notre Dame, Michigan State and Wisconsin.

The Golden Eagles return to action Saturday at the Wisconsin Elite Invitational in Madison, Wis.
