MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field teams took on their counterparts from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Illinois-Chicago on Friday evening at the Klotsche Center in the John Tierney Triangular. The women’s squad was able to defeat both UIC and UWM, while the men topped the Flames and lost to the host-Panthers.

The meet’s highlight was freshman Cassy Goodrich, who won the women’s 300-meter run and tied a 14-year old program record with a time of 39.56 seconds, tying Jennifer Batie’s mark from Feb. 16, 2001. Goodrich’s time also broke a 21-year old Klotsche Center facility record of 40.04 seconds.

In the women’s 60-meter dash, redshirt sophomore Molly O’Brien notched the No. 9 mark in MU history with a time of 7.88 seconds to win the event ahead of Goodrich. O’Brien is also a member of the women’s lacrosse program and was competing in just her second meet.

Freshman Jennifer Parker fell just short of a new program record but won the women’s 600-meter run with a time of 1:35.55, just three-tenths of a second short of the all-time mark. That time also topped Sarah Ball’s old MU freshman record of 1:36.47 in the event.

In the women’s distance events, sophomore Brittney Feivor won the 3,000-meter run and Kellie Greenwood took home top honors in the mile, while Cody Haberkorn won the men’s 3k.

Sophomores Omo Tseumah and Omaru Abdulahi claimed victories in the women’s and men’s high jump, respectively. Tseumah, who also won the women’s event as a freshman in 2014, reached 1.65 meters, while Abdulahi’s mark of 2.10 meters tied his own personal best in the event.

In the men’s pole vault, sophomore Joel Swanberg took home top honors by clearing a height of 4.65 meters (15 feet, 3 inches) to tie him for fourth all-time in MU history. Junior John Kaplan and freshman William Ford took second and third, respectively.

The women also took the top two spots in the pole vault with Nicole Jaffke topping Gemma Tedeschi with a height of 3.40 meters (11 feet, 1.75 inches).

Sophomore Dwayne Dash and freshman Djdade Denson placed 2-3 in the men’s long jump with marks of 7.02 and 7.00 meters, respectively. Those marks place Dash in a tie for sixth all-time at MU and Denson, a Milwaukee native, seventh.

Seniors Kathryn Koeck and Samantha Kennedy took first and second in the women’s weight throw and were followed by freshman Maya Marion in third place. Koeck’s winning toss registered at 16.63 meters.

Marion also won the women’s shot put with a mark of 13.45 meters.

Marquette ended the day by capturing both the men’s and women’s 4x400-meter relays. Alex Halloway, Anton Rice, Joshua Word and Nicholas Ebert finished in 3:26.81 for the men and Arra Strong, Nicole Ethier, Anna Strong and Cassy Goodrich topped the women’s race in a time of 3:54.66.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, Jan. 30 at the Jack Johnson Invitational in Minneapolis.
