NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Led by a program record in the women's distance medley relay, the Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams concluded the first day of action at the Meyo Invitational on Friday evening at the Loftus Sports Center in Notre Dame, Ind.

Freshmen Kayla Spencer and Alison Parker along with sophomore Nicole Ethier and senior Katie Kemmerer placed third in the women's distance medley relay in a time of 11:40.36. That mark broke the previous MU record of 11:41.17, set by the relay team of Jessica Swan, Jeannette Batie, Rachel Kirvan and Brianna Dahm, which won the 2002 Conference USA championship at Indiana.

Freshman Brittney Feivor and junior Elisia Meyle notched personal bests in the women's 5,000-meter run with times of 17:11.53 (14th) and 17:17.16 (16th), respectively. Sophomore Kellie Greenwood was 26th in 17:43.93.

In the men's 1,000-meter run, sophomore Brendan Franz notched a time of 2:28.54, the 10th-fastest in program history, to finish eighth. David Sajdak was 14th while Christian Zambrano was 23rd.


 

 

Sophomore Anton Rice recorded a new PR of 1:05.22 in the men's 500-meter run to place seventh.

In the women's high jump, freshman Omo Tseumah tied for fourth with a leap of 1.69 meters (5 feet, 6.50 meters).

Marquette's runners and jumpers return to action on Saturday morning for day two of the Meyo Invitational, while its throwers will compete on Saturday morning at the UW-Parkside Track & Field Classic in Kenosha, Wis.
