Jessica Parker's School Record Highlights MU's BIG Day
Feb. 10, 2017
ALLENDALE, Mich. – Junior Jessica Parker raced to a school-record in the 800 meters to highlight a successful day for the Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field teams at the GVSU BIG Meet on Friday.
Parker overtook former middle-distance standout Nicole Ethier (’16), who previously set the mark at the BIG EAST Championships just last year, for the top spot. Her time of 2:10.08 currently ranks fourth-fastest in the BIG EAST this year and bested Ethier’s mark by less than a second, sitting just ahead of her sisters Alison Parker and Jennifer Parker, who now hold the No. 3 and 4 spots all-time.
“It was a good meet overall,” said Marquette head coach Bert Rogers. “ We had a number of good performances that are going to move us up in the BIG EAST rankings and as we get ready for BIG EAST, we’re going to be ready to roll.”
Also on the women’s side, Monique Felix and Terica Harris became the first two MU triple jumpers to eclipse 12 meters in not only the same season, but same meet. On Friday, Felix moved to No. 3 all-time with a distance of 12.11 meters to place third, while Harris, who already holds the No. 2 spot all-time, leapt to 12.10 meters to take fourth. Both Harris and Felix rank first and second, respectively, in the BIG EAST this season.
Cassy Goodrich competed in her first 200-meter dash of the season and won her heat, running to a season-best time of 24.75 seconds, to finished in second place overall. Her time ranks fifth in the BIG EAST this season.
On the men’s side, both Brad Eagan and Alec Miller ran to personal-bests in the mile. Eagan clocked in at 4:07.62 to take sixth place overall and set the No. 6 mark all-time at MU, while Miller’s time of 4:09.83 was good for ninth.
As a whole, the squad produced numerous personal-best performances on Friday and will take that momentum and confidence into their final tune-up prior the BIG EAST Indoor Championships (Feb. 24) at Ocean Breeze next week at the Red & White Open hosted by UW-Madison on Friday, Feb. 17.
