Track Notches Three New BIG EAST Marks at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams had three new individuals record qualifying marks for the 2011 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday evening at the Hoosier Hills Invitational.
"Today's meet was a good way to get ready for the BIG EAST Championships," head coach Bert Rogers said. "We accomplished what we wanted to get done and we received three new conference-qualifying marks."
Bolgert, Billy Schlottke and Cheldon Brown each recorded third-place finishes in the mile, 800-meter run and high jump, respectively. Bolgert's time of 4:18.61 qualifies him for the BIG EAST meet, while sophomore Connor Callahan also posted a BIG EAST mark of 4:18.76 to finish fourth.
Condon ran a time of 5:07.95 in the mile to finish seventh.
Sophomore Chanel Franklin notched BIG EAST qualifying marks in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes, including a personal-best time of 25.29 seconds in the 200.
In the women's 3,000-meter run, junior Kate Horan notched a personal best of 10:22.11 to finish third.
Freshman Gretchen Homan placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 59.10 seconds, while junior Jenny Zahn finished eighth. Homan also notched a personal best of 26.13 seconds in the 200 meters.
"Gretchen is really starting to come around and is putting everything together after the usual freshman struggles," Rogers said.
Junior James Muehleman was the runner-up in the triple jump and moved to seventh in school history with a distance of 45 feet, 2 1/2 inches (13.78 meters).
Freshman Caryle Schuh tied the second-longest mark of her career in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 7 inches (5.66 meters).
The Golden Eagles will return to action Saturday, Feb. 19 at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in Akron, Ohio.
