Ethier's 600 Record Leads MU at GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Senior Nicole Ethier broke the school record en route to winning the 600-meter run and the Marquette University men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded action at the GVSU Big Meet on Friday.
With a time of 1:33.22, Ethier broke a 10-year-old record by 2 seconds that was previously held by Kristina Malin from back in 2006. The Woodbury, Minnesota native beat out 35 other competitors for the win.
In the men’s 600, Anton Rice nearly matched his personal-best of 1:19.19, falling just 0.66 of a second off the mark, but racing to a second-place finish overall.
Several others were able to reach their personal-best marks on Friday. On the women’s side, Arra Strong in the 60-meter dash (7.98 seconds), Clare McDonald in the 3,000-meter run (9:51.06 – No. 10 all-time at MU) and Kayla Spencer set a season-best in the mile with a time of 4:54.45.
Also for the men, freshmen Connor Boos (7.00 seconds) and Karl Tatum (7.03 seconds) set the No. 4 and No. 5 all-time marks at MU, respectively. Meanwhile, Nicholas Ebert set a personal-best in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.42 seconds.
Monique Felix led the jumpers with a big personal-best mark in the triple jump with a distance of 11.99 meters (39-4 feet). The mark set the No. 4 distance all-time at MU and was enough to win the event. Also in the triple jump, Terica Harris leapt to a distance of 11.69 meters (38-4.25 feet) to set the No. 6 mark all-time at MU.
Another top mark on the men’s side was William Wolf’s second place finish in the triple jump, setting the No. 5 mark all-time at MU with a distance of 13.92 meters (45-8 feet), which tied for the longest mark in the event, but settled for second place overall.
The Golden Eagles will head to Madison to take part in the Red & White Open hosted by UW-Madison next Friday, Feb. 19.
