MADISON, Wis. - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams completed action at the Wisconsin Shell Shocker on Friday, the squad's final tune-up before the BIG EAST Championships next week.

"It was a pretty good tune-up meet. We were able to get done whatever we needed to do to get ready for next week," Marquette head coach Bert Rogers said. "Some people were running some off events just to tune up and others got the weekend off.

"Overall, I think we got out of this what we were looking for. It was about being ready to roll next week and I think we're in a good spot. We're excited to get to BIG EAST."

Monica Voudrie's performance in the weight throw highlighted the women's side on Friday. The sophomore crushed her second attempt with a distance of 18.06 meters (59 feet, 3 inches) to take third place overall. The mark checks in at No. 4 all-time at MU and is tops in the BIG EAST this season.

For the men, Joshua Word turned in the highlight of the night with a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash, clocking in with the second-fastest time all-time at MU of 6.92 seconds.

Other highlights include senior Dwayne Dash Jr. (6.72 meters/22 feet, 0.75 inches) rolling to a win in the long jump with Cory Cegelski (6.67 meters/21 feet, 10.75 inches) taking second. Freshman Daniel Armstrong took home the win in the high jump with a mark of 2.05 meters (6 feet, 8.75 inches).

Marquette also went 1-2 in the 3,000 meters thanks to Max McClelland (8:54.06) and Jack Carpenter (9:04.62). In the 60-meter hurdles, William Eggers set a personal-best with a time of 8.98 seconds, while William Ford jumped to a season-best in the pole vault with a mark of 4.57 meters (15 feet).

For the women, Mary Hanson used a strong kick to win the mile with a time of 5:09.47 and Madison Marko placed third overall in the long jump with a mark of 5.33 meters (17 feet, 6 inches).

Marquette will head to Staten Island, N.Y. for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships, set for Friday-Saturday, Feb. 24-25, at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Facility - the same venue that saw the MU women win their first-ever indoor championship with the men narrowly taking second place.
